Tammie Lee Owner, Director and Instructor of Studio 4 School of Dance
Mrs. Tammie Lee began her dance journey at the age of twelve, with a primary focus on ballet. By the age of fourteen, she became one of the founding members of the Mendocino Ballet Company, training under the direction of Mary Knight. She quickly earned leading roles in productions such as The Nutcracker (as Sugar Plum Fairy), Les Sylphides, Pictures at an Exhibition, and La Boutique Fantasque, along with numerous solo performances.
In her late teens, Mrs. Lee joined the Santa Rosa Ballet and continued to perform with the company for several years. She later furthered her training with Marin Ballet, participating in their Summer Intensive Programs, which expanded her expertise in ballet and contemporary dance.
After relocating to Southern California, Mrs. Lee continued her education at Orange Coast College, majoring in dance with an emphasis in choreography. There, she studied ballet under Karen Shanley and contemporary and modern dance with Linda Sohl-Donnell. Her exceptional choreography talent earned her two scholarships.
Over the years, Mrs. Lee has studied with numerous prestigious institutions, including Carolyn Wadman School of Dance, Mary Knight School of Dance, Sacramento School of Ballet, Mendocino Ballet School, Santa Rosa Ballet School, Ballet En Ronde, Marin Ballet School, Long Beach Ballet School, Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio, Jimmy Defore Dance Center, Houston Met Dance Center, Marin Dance Theatre, ODC Dance Commons, and Alonzo King Lines Ballet.
Mrs. Lee met her husband, Kenny Lee, in Southern California, and they moved to Houston, Texas, where they married and pursued small business ventures in the service industry. In 2003, the couple relocated to Murphys, California, where they founded Family 4 Fitness Inc. in 2004. In 2005, they established Studio 4 School of Dance, which began with just two students and has since grown to serve over 100 students. Through Studio 4, Mrs. Lee teaches ballet, pointe, contemporary, and jazz, aiming to inspire the youth of Calaveras County to follow their dreams in the arts.
In 2009, Mrs. Lee founded Studio 4 Dance Theater, a non-profit dance company where she serves as Artistic Director and President. Under her leadership, the company performs the annual Nutcracker ballet and a Spring Showcase, featuring works choreographed by Mrs. Lee, such as Alice’s Adventures, Peter and the Rabbit, Sleeping Beauty’s Wedding, and many others, including student-choreographed pieces.
Both Studio 4 School of Dance and Studio 4 Dance Theater perform at various venues across Calaveras County each year, including the Murphys Irish Days Parade, Children’s Frog Jump Parade, Miss Calaveras Pageant, Angels Camp Christmas Parade, and Murphys Open House & Christmas Parade.
Whenever possible, Mrs. Lee continues her dance education at Alonzo King Lines Ballet and ODC Dance Commons in San Francisco, focusing on ballet, jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop.
